SPOILER ALERT!
Yes. Laurence Fishburne was Perry White.
Honestly, I never had much love for Superman. The basic dynamic of the character just isn't very interesting to me. The lack of limitations and the fact that this illegal alien (lol) is soooo perfect, just never set well with me. And the last film attempt at everyone's favorite Kryptonian set the bar soooo low, this film had no where to go but up!
With all that said, I enjoyed this film. The story took the big blue boy scout in a different direction that most of us are used to for Supes. The film was actually rather grim from what I was expecting. I would venture to say that it seemed like this treatment of Superman got sprinkled with a tad bit of realism (as much as is allowed in a comic movie anyway). This was good and bad (I'll explain later).
One of my biggest gripes about Superman was that he seemed to be a dry character. Too perfect... Well this ain't your granddad's Superman i.e.
I have to say again that I liked the departure from the "standard" origin story that we've seen before. This film made me think of Clark Kent as a tragic hero. I'd never seen the blue boyscout in that light before. Seeing Clark's childhood in flashbacks was cool. The special effects for X-ray vision were also cool! Seeing Krypton was kinda cool as well. I liked the political dynamic that was shown and how Zod and Jor-El were almost on the same side. I liked the way they went with Zod and his personality.
What didn't I like?
The missing red underoos didn't bother me in the least.
I did wish I would've gotten KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!
The movie left me wanting though. Why hasn't DC started putting scenes after the credits? A setup for Lex Luthor or a mention of Zod's body missing could've been huge and awesome...

- Clark Kent is treated as a freak, not just bullied (Kent's didn't do a great job shielding him).
- He yells at Pa' Kent, You're not my father!
- Instead of college, he becomes a wanderer taking odd jobs.

- Pa' Kent's death...I understand the purpose his death serves, but the way it played out just seemed...I dunno silly...
- Kick butt Jor-El was AWESOME, but at the same time....isn't he a scientist and he's kicking Zod's tail. Zod was a warrior bred...kinda took away from Zod.
- Supes did the same NOOOOO yell...oh no dad died, oh no this hurts, oh no I might get killed, oh no I killed Zod
- The cinematography was choppy during the fight scenes. I understand this is Kryptonian on Earth, but still could've been sharper and/or clearer I think.
- Metropolis gets back to normal pretty quick after a near Armageddon.
- Lois figures out who Superman is, but the government can't?

Solid B grade for Man of Steel!
Everton who hasn't't seen this movie yet needs to see it!
